Mary E. Farrell

Mary E. Farrell, founder of the Farrell Law Group, is an employment law specialist and litigator with 23+ years of experience and expertise in representing employers of all sizes. Mary and her team have successfully defended several wage & hour class action lawsuits as well as individual claims. She works closely with clients to develop credible litigation avoidance strategies in high-risk employment disputes as well as every day personnel challenges. Mary has experience handling individual harassment, discrimination and retaliation claims, contract & tort-based employment litigation, whistleblower actions, unfair competition & trade secret litigation as well as class action wage & hour claims.

Mary is a frequent speaker on employment law trends and emerging issues and has been selected for inclusion as a Northern California Super Lawyer every year since 2010, including 2016. This recognition is a designation by Super Lawyers Magazine and is the result of peer nomination and evaluation. Each year thousands of lawyers throughout California submit nominations, which are then reviewed and evaluated by a research team established by Super Lawyers Magazine. According to the Journal of Law and Politics, recipients of the Super Lawyer honor represent the top 5% of lawyers in each practice area.

Mary was recently selected by her peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America 2016 and 2017 in the field of Litigation/Labor & Employment. Best Lawyers is the oldest and most respected peer-review publication in the legal profession. A listing in Best Lawyers is widely regarded by both clients and legal professionals as a significant honor, conferred on a lawyer by his or her peers. For more than three decades, Best Lawyers lists have earned the respect of the profession, the media, and the public, as the most reliable, unbiased source of legal referrals anywhere.

Mary has also been selected for inclusion in Sacramento Magazine’s Top Lawyers list for 2015, 2016 and 2017.  Area attorneys were asked to recommend other attorneys among 53 legal specialties.  Each attorney was allowed to recommend up to three attorneys in each given specialty.  Each nomination was carefully evaluated on the basis of the survey results, the legitimacy of their license and their current standing with the State Bar of California.

Mary is also a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, a peer-selected, honorary society of 3,500 of the best trial lawyers you will find anywhere. Comprised of less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers, LCA is an invitation-only collegial network of attorneys who are vigorously vetted for their skills, expertise and experience.

Prior to forming the Farrell Law Group in 2009, Mary was a partner at Murphy Austin Adams Schoenfeld LLP in Sacramento and was Chair of the firm’s Labor & Employment Practice.

Mary received her law degree with Great Distinction from the McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento in 1994 where she graduated Order of the Coif and was a member of the Traynor Honor Society. She was awarded a bachelor’s degree from California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, 1990.

Mary resides in Sacramento with her husband, Craig and together they enjoy camping, golfing & cycling.
